Why see a dietitian?

Diets don't work. Eating real food does.

Chances are you have tried a diet, plan or supplement. Maybe a few.

You might be trying to eat differently for a new diagnosis, to reduce your risk of chronic disease, to improve your energy or mood. Maybe you accomplished your goal for a time, but found it too hard to maintain. And when you stopped, things returned to how they were before. It's NOT YOUR FAULT, because DIETS DON'T WORK.

Rather than restricting foods or trying another short-term diet, I recommend reconnecting with food for lifelong health by learning to nourish your unique body.

  1. Eating real whole food and nourishing your gut
  2. Learning to meal plan and prep so that you have great options available when you need them and can more easily avoid impulse eating
  3. Prioritizing food as a pivotal part of your overall health and not just a checklist of things to avoid
  4. Following your hunger and fullness cues allows you to trust your intuition as you choose a great variety and reasonable amount of food to nourish yourself.
  5. Putting in the hard work and taking small, sustainable steps forward.

How you eat is PERSONAL. We will have open, non-judgemental, honest conversation. There will be no shame and no guilt.  We will start with where you are today and make a realistic plan to work towards your goals one step at a time. Progress, not perfection.

Maybe you want to lose weight.  (Spoiler: All bodies are different and beautiful! Not every person is the same size or shape and that should never define your health or worth!) Our appointments are all virtual so there is no scale or weight-in. If you want to talk about weight, we will do that on your terms. But I would be just as happy talking about the awesome food you are eating.  Meal planned, saved money and ate out less this week? WIN. Modified a favourite recipe to be higher fibre? WIN. Tried a bite of sauerkraut to get some probiotics? WIN. Not all success is measured by a number.

Not sure if you should see a dietitian? Take the "Barriers to Change" quiz. If you experience any of these barriers, I can help you address them so you can get on your way to more balanced eating.

Nutrition is not  "one size fits all"

Have you ever searched the following but found the information confusing, impractical, contradictory?

  • intuitive eating
  • meal planning
  • gut, microbiome
  • weight loss
  • anti-inflammatory
  • low FODMAP
  • high protein diet
  • mood and energy
  • eating on a budget
  • kids, selective eaters
  • allergies, intolerances
  • menopause
  • body positivity
  • nutrition
  • gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free
  • keto, paleo, carnivore
  • dieititan near me
  • what should I eat?
  • intermittent fasting
  • what kind of oil?

Maybe it's time to ask a dietitian! Book a FREE "New Client Call" to see if we can help.

2. Set Goals

With the "New Client Package," a  registered dietitian will start by assessing your typical eating patterns and recommend areas for growth. I may know a lot about food, but you are your own body expert.

Together we will make SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound) goals and a sustainable plan to work towards them.

Our plan involves  prioritizing food as a pivotal part of your overall health and not just a checklist of things to avoid. It involves meal planning, limiting processed foods and additives, eating a balanced variety of real whole foods. Follow your hunger and fullness cues and trust your intuition. About Me

I have been a registered dietitian (RD) since 2009 and have worked in hospitals, community, health promotion, in-patient and out-patient , urban and rural, pediatrics and geriatrics. I have seen in all. Nothing you can say or do about food will surprise me!

There have been a lot of food trends in the last decade and a half since I started practicing. It's time to get back to the basics of eating good food, slowing down and following our natural rhythms and intuitions.

If you are looking for diets, restrictions or guilt; you won't find that here. Instead, you will learn how to trust your body's intuitions and hunger cues to choose what foods can nourish you best. You will learn to think about your relationship with food differently. You will practice meal planning and prep to ensure you have great food available and reduce decision fatigue, mealtime stress, and impulse eating. You will learn about gut health and how it affects mental health and how eating real food can heal your mind and body.

My family currently lives in Nunavut, Canada.
